Cambridge provides a formula sheet for IGCSE Physics 0625 Paper 4 and Paper 6. Knowing what is on it saves memorisation effort. Knowing what is not on it tells you what to learn.
What is given on the formula sheet
The formula sheet includes equations that are either complex or involve constants. Typical examples include:
- Kinetic energy: KE = 0.5 m v squared
- Gravitational potential energy: GPE = m g h
- Pressure in liquids: p = rho g h
- The relationship between power, current and voltage: P = I V and P = I squared R
- Transformer equation: V_p / V_s = N_p / N_s
- Wave equation: v = f lambda
The exact list varies slightly between exam sessions. Always check the formula sheet provided with your specific past paper or the specimen paper for your session.
What must be memorised
Several core equations are NOT on the formula sheet and must be recalled from memory:
- Speed = distance / time
- Acceleration = change in velocity / time
- Force = mass x acceleration (Newton’s second law)
- Weight = mass x gravitational field strength
- Work done = force x distance
- Power = work done / time (or energy transferred / time)
- Density = mass / volume
- Pressure = force / area
- Moment = force x perpendicular distance from pivot
- Charge = current x time
- Voltage = current x resistance (Ohm’s law)
- Energy = current x voltage x time
How to use this information
- Print or write out the formula sheet. Keep a copy next to you during revision.
- Memorise only the equations not on the sheet. Focus your flashcard practice on these.
- Practice with and without the sheet. During early revision, use the sheet. In the final 2 weeks, attempt questions without it to check your recall.
Rearranging equations
Whether an equation is given or not, you must be able to rearrange it. If the formula sheet gives P = I V, you still need to find I = P / V or V = P / I. Practice rearranging every equation for each variable.
On exam day
The formula sheet is printed inside the question paper. You do not need to bring your own. Read it carefully at the start of the exam to remind yourself what is available.
